Drawing My Dog
One of my favorite things to do is to draw my dog. He is a 75 pound German Shepherd mix with a lot of character. Well, maybe he does not have a lot of character… maybe he just is a character. Anyway, all that character makes for some really cute poses. I have maybe a hundred different drawings of him playing with his toys, trying to herd our two cats, begging for food, sleeping, and lying on the bed watching me get dressed to go hiking. And, of course, I have a few drawings of him out on a hike, or begging for more dinner at camp.
He is an ideal subject in terms of cuteness and enthusiasm, but he has one major drawback. He will not stay still. He’s just impossible about it, except when he’s sleeping. The best solution I’ve come up with is to photograph him with my iphone and then draw from the photograph.
