What Do I Need for a New Puppy?

From Crate Training to House Training
A plastic or wire kennel large enough to accommodate your new puppy when he wants to eat or sleep or day dream about chasing cars has all sorts of advantages. But surely the one of greatest interest to your puppy’s owner is how “crate training” can teach the puppy to wait till he is being walked outside to relieve himself rather than doing so in your house. The process is surprisingly swift. In fact, crate training can have your puppy house trained inside two weeks.
The secret is the simple fact that puppies do not like to poop or pee in the same place that they eat or sleep. So as long as your puppy is inside his kennel, he will tend to “hold it in,” provided you of course keep track of the time. You should take your puppy outside as soon as he wakes up in the morning and after he eats. Beyond that, you can use this rule of thumb. Add one to the number of months your puppy has been alive. That’s the maximum number of hours that should pass between trips outdoors. So a two month old puppy should be walked every three hours, a three month puppy every four hours and so forth. Stick to that schedule and “paper training” won’t be necessary.
Soon your puppy will start to associate going outside with “going.” This can be reinforced by visiting the same place outdoors and making it his own special puppy potty. Rewards are always good for encouraging positive puppies behavior. So carry a small food treat to give to the puppy after a successful walk. When you come back, you can even give your puppy the run of the house for at least a little while. But being a puppy, he won’t need much encouragement from you to gravitate toward the safety and familiarity of his good old “crate”. That’s especially true if you or other family members are in the room with him.
In general, don’t keep the kennel door locked except perhaps during sleeping hours. If you expect to be away from the puppy for any length of time, keep him corralled in the area around the kennel with a baby gate. A kitchen or a laundry room is perfect for this. And never use confinement in the kennel as punishment at all. Your puppy’s kennel is his home, not his prison.
Puppy Biting Problem
All puppies bite, especially when they are playing and while teething. This behavior should last for only four months or lesser. It is considered normal within this period and it is usually tolerable. However, puppies should learn to inhibit their biting after four months of age. Beyond this period and or if biting becomes excessive and causes you trouble you should do something about it.
One thing you may do it is to allow your puppy to socialize with other puppies or with your family members if it does not have littermates. It is said that biting in puppies are their form of play and eventually they would learn to inhibit their biting through interaction with other puppies.

For a Yorkie the name Wolverine wouldn’t fit because he’s a small dog. A better name may be Yippers or Ratter.

Watching Dogs Interact Together is an Interesting Exchange of Personality
Have you ever really watched how two dogs interact with each other? It’s quite an interesting exchange of gestures, body language and vocal language all combined to get their point across. Most of it is claiming their territory which could mean their space or their toys or their masters, to name a few.
We have noticed that, most times, the dogs are able to work it out between them without any human intervention. In fact, it is best for humans to stay out of the initial acquaintance as well as their continuing intervention unless, of course, things totally get out of control if there is an aggressive dog in the mix.
Dogs understand the pack community and have a very healthy regard for the dog who establishes a more superior “alpha” role in the relationship. It is comical to watch our two dogs work out who’s going to play with what toy at what time. Our dog seems to want to take all of her cousin dog’s toys and surround herself with them. He will gently retrieve one at a time back when he’s fed up with that game. As a reward for their good playing, we give them each some Merrick Flossies which is their one of their favorite chews.

As sweet and loving as our Rottweiler is, she just gets the biggest kick out of barking at other dogs as we drive by and she has her head out the window. Then, when released from this position, she will raise up her head, look out the window left and right to look for that dog again. It’s really a little funny to see her determination. If that’s the worst of our Rottweiler problems we have with her, we’re not complaining at all.
